Samos is popular with walkers who are drawn to the island by the stunning green countryside with its wealth of wild flora and delightful hillside villages. Samos would suit those looking for relaxation and natural beauty as well as offering some low-key nightlife based around quayside tavernas. This is not an island with an abundance of 'English Breakfasts'.
Samos is one of the most beautiful islands in the Aegean Sea, located just one nautical mile from the Asia Minor Coast. The island posses some stunning scenery; fertile plains, pine forests and wild flowers dominate the mountainous landscape. Crystal clear sea, picturesque bays and beaches surround Samos. The island has a rich history; it was the birthplace of Pythagoras and also home to the Goddess Hera. Rediscover clients can sample the historical monuments and a rich cultural past. The most popular walking areas are located in the Potami river gorge and Valley of the Nightingales. | Kokkari is a resort that has grown out of a small fishing village on the north coast. Generally, a laid-back resort, Kokkari offers an excellent choice of fish tavernas, modest shopping and a few bars in the centre. A great location for taking trips by car or on foot into the island's interior. It is also a recognised centre for windsurfing. | This one-time classical city is now Samos' main resort. Pythagorion and its hotels and apartments are a very short transfer from the airport. A cosmopolitan town now, centred on a picturesque harbour, a good selection of places to eat and drink plus safe, shingle beaches nearby. | Samos Town is a bustling picturesque harbour which maintains its tradition during the day and comes alive for entertainment in the evenings with a selection of lively bars, sophisticated cafes and restaurants. ARCHAEOLOGICAL MUSEUM
In this museum we can adore all of the most wonderful excavations of ‘HERAION’, dating from the Pre-historic, Geometric and mainly from the Archaic Era. Apart from other works of sculpture of different art, also exhibitions from the Hellenistic Era. The greatest and thus most famous pieces of excavations from the Archaic Period are the assemblage of the Samian sculptor GENELEOS and – above all – the 5,5 m huge statue of a young man – KOUROS.
MONASTERY “TIMIOS STAVROS”
The
visit to this monastery is an example of Byzantine Greece. It is one of
the most beautiful monasteries of the island, built in 16th
century by the monks Neilos and Dionyssos. The church of this monastery
is of Byzantine architectural order and with its exceptionally
beautiful wooden carved sanctuary it is one of the most famous
monasteries of
