A beautiful island just a short hydrofoil or flying dolphin trip from Athens.
Poros consists of two islands: Sferia, the southern part, which is where Poros Town is located, and Kalavria the northern and largest part. A bridge connects the two islands. Poros was the site of the first naval base in modern Greece, established in 1827 during the Greek War of Independence. The island sits between Aegina and Hydra and hugs the coastline of the Peloponnese - you can cross to the mainland in five minutes! This makes Poros a great base to explore the fantastic sights on the Peloponnese - Epidavros, Mycenae and Nafplion. However Poros is worth a visit in its own right. Topped by a striking bell tower the town is a mixture of neoclassical and the traditional. It is a delight to wander through the quiet back streets of the town before arriving at the harbour to watch the boats to-ing and fro-ing.

Beaches are delightful for those looking for relaxation; there is plenty to see for the more active, including a visit to the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi with its Holy Spring which enjoys an exceptional location on the slope of a pine forest.
