Magic of Lapland Yllasrinne Short Break - 3 days - 2009

 

Itinerary

Day One:

On arrival in Kittila with your representative you will transfer to Yllasjarvi (approx 45 minutes) to the Yllasrinne Hotel and cabins. Check in and collect your thermal clothing at the hotel. Following a reviving lunch you will depart for a husky dog farm where you will learn about the lives of husky dogs and take part in a husky dog safari of 3km.

Return to your hotel for dinner.

 

Day Two:

Breakfast and depart from your hotel for a 30 minute reindeer ride that will take you through the snowy landscape to the reindeer herders' cabins and the Magic Forest. Join in tandem skiing, snow shoe walking and tobogganing. Children can make Christmas decorations and gingerbread cookies. Each family can meet Santa on a private basis in his cabin in the forest where he has stopped for a rest. Santa will read your child's letter and he will have a present of a small soft toy for them. A simple Lappish lunch will be served on the farm. On the way back to the hotel there will be a stop for souvenir shopping. Arrive back to your hotel at approximately 16.00. Dinner will be served at the hotel.

 

 

Day Three:

A free morning after breakfast - perhaps you would like to go tobogganing? Check out of the hotel and enjoy lunch at the hotel. After lunch depart for a 3 hour snowmobile safari through unspoilt Lappish wilderness with a stop in the forest for warm drinks and gingerbread cookies. As there are two adults per snowmobile you can swap drivers after the stop, children are pulled behind in sleighs. After returning the thermal clothing you transfer to the airport for the flight home.

4 day stay

The itinerary for the 3 night/4 day stay is the same as 2 nights/3 days with the exception that day 3 on the 4 day break is free. You may decide to take part in an optional excursions, ski or just toboggan and enjoy the snow.

Optional Excursions Available at Extra Cost

Husky Farm Visit and Sleigh Safari - visit to a farm with Alaskan and Siberian huskies. Take a 9km ride, learn to steer the sleigh. Hear about the life of husky dogs.

Duration: 2.5 hours Price: Adult £ 125, Child £ 95.

Snow Shoe Trip - walk through the forest in snow shoes as the ancient Finns did on wooden skiis. Walk through snowy forest for 3 km. Stop for hot drinks on an open fire.

Duration: 2.5 hour Price: Adult/Child: £ 50

Downhill skiing: Both ski school and the hire of equipment is available at extra cost. Please ask for details

 

ACCOMMODATION

YLLASRINNE HOTEL AND CABINS

 

Yllasrinne hotel is located in Yllasjarvi, a small secluded Lappish village situated at the foot of a forest. This simple and authentic Lappish hotel boasts scenic views of the picturesque countryside in winter and offers a choice of hotel accommodation or cosy cabins in its grounds.

Hotel room types: 30 twin/double rooms capable of sleeping up to 3 persons and interconnecting family rooms accommodating 4 or 5 persons. The family room sleeps up to 4 and has a gallery sleeping area accessed by a steep ladder – not recommended for younger children.
All rooms have: shower, WC, hair dryer, TV (local channels), mini-bar, phone and radio.

Yllasrinne cabins are located 400- 800 m from the hotel. They are open plan in style and access to the gallery is via a steep ladder. They accommodate up to 4 persons. Transportation of luggage to and from the cabins is done with the hotel minibus.
All cabins have: shower, WC, hair dryer, TV (local channels), sauna and fire place. All meals are taken in the hotel. Sledges are provided for families with children.

Hotel facilities: restaurant, bar, gym, Jacuzzi (payable locally) and sauna. Outdoor facilities include tobogganing.
