Nuns' Valley |
Estalagem Eira do Serrado |
|
| Eira do Serrado lies only half an hour from Funchal but it really is one of the most stunning areas on the island with breathtaking views over the mountains and right down to the village in the valley. Nuns settled here many centuries ago whilst they were seeking refuge from the frequent pirate attacks. This area is famous for chestnuts and cherries and the famous liqueur, Ginga, made from wild cherries can be bought in this area. | The Estalagem Eira do Serrado has a spectacular location with stunning views in all directions from its perch at just over 1000m above sea level. The hotel has a modern feel with wooden floors and tasteful decor. The village of Curral das Freiras is reached along a short, if slightly adventurous pathway. A perfect 'get away from it all' location* | |
* as such a scenic spot it does attract day trippers from Funchal so certain times of the day may be busier than just the number of guests at the hotel. |
