Legionnaires Trek
This trek is named after a crumbling French Foreign Legion fort that you will visit rather than the hard way of life that honed the Legion. It couples gentle daily rides and walks through the mountains with the comfortable beds of the Hotel des Cascades. The walking is not overly strenuous and can be easily coped with by those who are reasonably fit. The longest day covers 16 kms, which translates to about 6 hours walking. Start from Agadir, Essaouira or Marrakech.
Day 1: After a memorable lunch at the Hotel des Cascades its time to pull on your boots and get into the saddle of a mule. You can either steer yourself on these gentle plodders or hook up to the mule train. The destination is the old fort set high above the hotel (see picture opposite). Day 2: After breakfast your guide will take you for approx. 3 hours walking to the palm groves and wonderful views of the Paradise Valley. Lunch is a traditional Berber fare in the village of Timkert. Take it easy over lunch as the route back is by mule. |

Day 3: The most adventurous day. A full days walk to the Toagrou Pass, approx. 16kms with some climbing. The magnificence of the scenery never fails to impress. Lunch is a simple picnic, prepared by the hotel in late afternoon. Overnight and dinner at hotel. |
