3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS - ref. ITCLFESktAS03m

DAY 1: FES – ERFOUD.

Departing your hotel in Fes at 07:30, we will drive through the dramatic scenery of both the mid and high Atlas mountains on our way to the tiny desert town of Erfoud. Ask you driver to stop in the Cedar Forest near Azrou to watch the incredible Barbary Apes. On arrival to Erfoud you see a mix of peach, red and golden brown sand dunes rising up from the horizon - this is the destination for tomorrow - the dunes of Erg Chebbi. You will be taken to the Kasbah Tizimi for dinner and your overnight stay.

DAY 2: ERFOUD - MERZOUGA – ERG CHEBBI.

Following yesterday's long journey you will have the opportunity to relax by the pool at the Kasbah Tizimi or to stroll around Erfoud. A light lunch of your choice can be purchased at the hotel prior to your early afternoon departure to Merzouga by 4WD vehicle. On arrival at the Auberge du Sud you will be offered a mint tea whilst your baggage has been loaded on to the pack animals, at around 4pm in winter (5pm summer) we set off, one person per dromedary, for some 2 hours across a sea of golden dunes. This is the only ‘true’ desert area of the kingdom of Morocco and an area where meteorites continue to be found, as were crocodile teeth, shark, pterosaur and spinosaurus fossils. We stop in the middle of nowhere to witness, from the high dunes, Nature’s incredible light show of sunset over ever-changing colours of dunes, to continue on under the star-filled heavens to our bivouac site of a carpeted Berber tent in a small oasis. First things first, a glass of mint tea once our packs are being unloaded. Our tagine dinner is prepared and, after dessert, tea or coffee, we sing and chat to our heart’s content.

DAY 3: ERG CHEBBI – MERZOUGA - FES

Our last brilliant sunrise, equal almost to last night’s unforgettable sunset, our Bedouin breakfast of tea, ‘sand’ bread, jam and cheese tucked away, our dromedaries having been saddled up for the return stage, we set off back across the plain around 8:30 for our final Meharée of some 2½ hours to the Auberge Du Sud, where we’ll take a shower.

Your driver will be waiting to return you to your original starting point of Fes.
