About Morocco's Southern Coast

We are pleased to offer our choice of smaller resort towns south of Agadir; these are off the beaten track, unspoilt and beautiful - perfect for exploring on a fly-drive holiday or simply a short break or family holiday away from the crowds.

This fairly undiscovered coast stretches from just south of Agadir right down the Atlantic through to Western Sahara. With quick, direct and frequent flights to Agadir, Mirleft can be a short break destination in its own right or combined into a twin centre or fly-drive holiday away from the crowds, such as Sidi Ifni, Tiznit, Massa, Tafraoute, Taroudant, Immouzer and Oulad Berhil (a combination that includes the Souss Valley, Anti Atlas Mountains and Atlantic coast) - all of these wonderful places are within two hours of Agadir Airport.

Mirleft

Amidst dramatic and unspoilt coastline a short drive south of Agadir is the small resort town of Mirleft. Here you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the Atlantic beaches in some excellent accommodation.

Massa

Part of the coastline south of Agadir Sidi R'bat is a place of beauty, complete with a 5 mile stretch of fine sandy beach at the heart of Souss Massa National Park and its bird sanctuary. Many species of birds such as greater flamingo, blue tit, crane, marbled teal and bald ibis may be watched here.

Sidi Ifni

The town of Sidi Ifni is quite unique in this part of Morocco as it was a Spanish enclave until 1969 and so has a very different atmosphere and style. Sidi Ifni is relatively busy in the middle of winter but the rest of the year it can be a pleasant, if unusual, place to stay. Much of the colonial heritage is, unfortunately, crumbling but there are signs of some new investment and an increasing choice of good places to eat.

Tiznit

Tiznit is a traditional town with a small pink-walled medina; a good base from which to enjoy the national park as well as excursions into the Anti Atlas and along the coast. Tiznit, capital of the province, is a city of 60,000 people and was built in 1883 by Moulay Hassan 1st, 17th Sultan of the Alaouite dynasty. The origin of its name comes from a holy woman named Lalila Zninia who, according to legend, was travelling from the north and stopped in this place. The town's walls have 36 towers and 9 gates and the centre point of the medina, Méchouar, is the starting point of the visit of the town and its souks, a great place to see the manufacturing of silver Berber jewellery. The produce market takes place each Wednesday and Thursday.
