Morocco's Desert Region

dunes of Erg Chebbi,near Merzouga

If you have come this far then you must visit the fringes of the Sahara and you can do this at Erfoud (Merzouga and the dunes at Erg Chebbi) and Zagora (M'Hamid and the dunes at Tinfou and Erg Lihoudi), both of which offer the opportunity to explore the desert by camel or 4WD, even quad bikes.

Draa Valley - en route to Zagora

Reservations - All our holidays are tailor-made so please feel free to request any combination of hotels, riads or tours for your own holiday. The minimum reservation for our accommodation only service is 3 nights in total, although not necessarily at same property. Simply contact us by phone or email or complete one of our enquiry forms.

Why Rediscover? - All our reservations staff have worked in Morocco (or visited extensively) and will be more than happy to offer advice and suggestions on any of our featured destinations, tours and properties.

Prices - our prices are similar to or quite often cheaper than our internet competitors or booking directly and significantly cheaper than those producing expensive brochures whilst our service, knowledge and after sales care is second to none.

Security - Rediscover the World is a member of the TTA (T6816), we also hold our own ATOL bond (T7172). We therefore provide full financial security and assistance should any part of your holiday not happen entirely to plan. Only 52 Days by camel to Timbuktu
The incredible dunes at Erg Chebbi
semi-desert scenery typical of the area around Erfoud

An incredible drive along the Draa valley will bring you to Zagora an outpost in the deep south suitable as a base for excursions into the Sahara. Famously on the edge of town is the signpost indicating Timbuktou to be a mere 52 days journey across the desert (by camel caravan of course).

25 kms of mostly dirt track from Erfoud, this is the location for many visitor's unforgettable Sahara experience. Yours may be an exhilarating walk up and down the dunes or simply the most stunning views at sunrise and sunset.

The ideal spot to enjoy the desert life and experience Morocco's most important oasis, the Tafilalet as well as venturing over to see the Erg Chebbi (massive dunes) beyond Merzouga. The famous date festival is held here in October.

The road through the High Atlas from Fez to Er Rachidia

Kasbah Jallal in Jorf, near Erfoud

scenery on the great southern road near Rissani

Er Rachidia is the first town you arrive in that is truly "of the south" and after a long drive down from Fez you may wish to consider this as an ideal break in your journey before tackling the desert region.

Jorf is a quiet palmeraie village not connected to tourism in any way - literally "off the beaten track". A perfect location for a few nights of complete peace and solitude in high quality accommodation.

Rissani is the last town before the Sahara proper and has been passed by most people en route to Erg Chebbi and Merzouga but we think the new Kasbah Ennasra near Rissani may just make you consider a stay here.
