Aegina Town
Aegina Town is a very picturesque Greek town. Approaching the island from Piraeus you first pass the residence of Nikos Kazantzakis (author of Zorba the Greek), then on past the Kolona, one of the remains of the Temple of Apollo, before sweeping round into the impressive harbour. Modern cafes blend easily with traditional tavernas, and stalls selling the ubiquitous pistachio nuts for which the island of Aegina is famous (allegedly over 1 million trees on the island). Horse drawn carriages wait patiently by the port and they can take you on a leisurely jaunt through the narrow streets of the town, some adorned with grand Neo-classical houses. Not far from the main church small boats bob gently in the harbour, each with a wonderous display of fresh fruit; a short walk from there, close to the fish market, family run tavernas do a roaring trade with local people, drawn in by the aroma of the freshly barbecued catch of the day.
Aegina Town is a place made for wandering - along the harbour, through the back streets, perhaps up to the small beach heading out of town. For a change of scenery you can easily hop on one of the local buses which will take you around the rest of the island.

Day trips from Aegina
Aegina Town is ideally placed to explore the other islands in the Saronic Gulf. Hydrofoils leave the harbour frequently and tickets can be booked at the port in advance. Should you wish to explore Aegina island further then we highly recommend car hire, which our office can organise for you.
