NORTH PINDOS CROSSING

This trekking tour covers most of the North Pindos area. You start from the region of Zagori, walking through villages, past bridges and streams. Continue your journey through the Vikos Gorge, reaching the famous village of Mikro Papingo. Above this small village is Drakolimni. After breakfast at the Astraka refuge (1950m) you walk to the town of Konitsa through one of the most wild and impressive routes on the mountain. The next target is the highest peak of the Pindos Mountains and second highest in the country, Mount Smolikas (2637m). The walk ends at the friendly village of Pades where you can dine in the lovely square.
Summary
Day 1 Arrive at Preveza Airport and transfer to Vitsa (around a 2 hour journey) where you spend the night.
Day 2 A day filled with delightful scenery as you walk around the villages and explore the old bridges which once connected them.

Day 3 Today you start to cross Vikos Gorge, an impressive canyon, and home to a rich and varied wildlife. Once across the Voidomatis springs the next stop is Papigo and the resting place for the evening.
Day 4 Early start today as Mount Timfi beckons! The most popular pathway to the mountain starts at Mikro Papigo. From here you will climb up to the hut, where you will stay the night. After a brief rest you then set off for Drakolimni, an alpine lake. It is worth climbing the small peak above the lake to enjoy the majestic vistas.
Day 5 Early start again as you will be having a lengthy climb this morning of 1500m. Journey's end today will be Konitsa. This town of 4500 inhabitants is located at the western end of Aoos Valley and is well known for being a centre for outdoor pursuits.

Day 6 A short morning transfer to Trapezitsa Mountain, north of Konitsa.Today is a relatively short day (about 6 hours) however some parts are very steep. From the ridge of the mountain you can enjoy an excellent view of Aoos Valley. Overnight in Pades (short transfer by minibus).
Day 7 The longest and most tiring day (10 hours) so an early start is required. Smolikas is Greece's second highest mountain at 2637m. It consists of forests and lots of streams. The path leads first to the alpine lake and then to the peak. After enjoying the views you head back to the lake and Pades village for the night.

Day 8 After a relaxing morning around Ioannina you transfer back to the airport
